Why change for the reception?

A second dress can give you more room to move for dinner and dancing, or a different look once the ceremony is over. You can also keep your ceremony gown on for the whole day.

Decide when you would change before choosing a dress. If you want to wear it for dinner, allow time to change before the meal so you can sit down with your guests.

A dress you can sit and dance in

When trying any reception dress, take a few normal steps and turn around. Check whether you shorten your stride to suit the skirt or keep reaching to adjust the bodice. Stand with your hands at your sides to see whether you need to hold the skirt up to walk.

Sit down as well. Check whether you can settle into a chair comfortably without pulling at the fabric. Raise your arms as you would on the dance floor, then lower them and check that the bodice stays in place.

Check the hem with the shoes you plan to wear for the reception. If you plan to swap heels for a lower shoe, check the length with both pairs.
