Start with your gown

Try accessories with the gown rather than choosing each piece on its own. A veil you like in a photograph may feel quite different beside the fabric of your dress. Look at the whole outfit in the mirror, then check where the veil's edge sits against the neckline.

Choosing a veil or gloves

Hold the veil against the dress and check how much of the gown shows through it. Look closely at any lace or other detail you want to keep visible, then step back to see the full length.

For gloves, check where they end against your sleeves and how they feel when you bend your arms. If you plan to take them off to exchange rings, decide where you will put them.

Keep one detail as the focus

Jewellery and hairpieces can draw attention to your face without needing to match every detail of the gown. If you choose earrings that stand out, try a quieter hairpiece alongside them. Or let the hairpiece be the focus and keep the jewellery simple.

If you plan to wear the same accessories with a reception dress, check them against that neckline too. A necklace that sits clear of one dress may overlap the edge of another.
